Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just curious about fly fishing, Lew Jewett Fly Fishers is your gateway to learning, conservation, and camaraderie. As a Saint Paul, Minnesota-based charter club of Fly Fishers International, we bring together people who share a passion for casting lines, tying flies, and protecting the waters we cherish.
Education & Events
Throughout the year, we offer hands-on seminars covering everything from selecting gear to mastering the art of casting and fly tying. Our club promotes responsible fishing practices, including catch and release, ensuring that future generations can experience the thrill of the sport.
During the off-season (October, December, February, and April), we host dinner meetings on the third Tuesday of each month, featuring guest speakers who share their expertise on fly fishing, conservation, and angling adventures. These gatherings provide a chance to learn, swap stories, and connect with fellow fly fishers in a relaxed setting.
In addition to our dinner meetings, we organize group fly-tying sessions, casting clinics, and other skill-building events at various parks and locations. Our summer casting sessions offer opportunities for members to refine their techniques and introduce newcomers to the sport.
Conservation & Stewardship
Fly fishing takes us to some of the most beautiful natural places, and we believe in giving back to the waters that provide so much. Our members actively participate in stream and shoreline cleanups, habitat preservation efforts, and conservation projects to protect the fisheries we love.
Fellowship & Fishing Outings
At its core, fly fishing is about more than just the fish—it’s about the friendships formed along the way. Club members often connect for spontaneous or planned outings, whether it’s a quick afternoon trip or a weekend getaway.
Smallmouth Bass Fishing & Fall Chili Fest
Many members enjoy pursuing smallmouth bass, known for their aggressive strikes and hard fights. Each fall, we celebrate this passion with the Chili Fest at Ellison Park in Monticello, where members spend the morning fly fishing for smallmouth on the Mississippi River, followed by a Chili Feast. Other smallmouth outings are organized throughout the season when conditions allow, taking advantage of Minnesota’s excellent warmwater fisheries.
Trout Fishing in the Driftless Area
For those who prefer coldwater fishing, members also organize trout outings to the Driftless Area near Preston. This region is home to some of Minnesota’s best spring-fed trout streams, offering clear waters, challenging hatches, and opportunities to catch trout. These outings are scheduled as weather and conditions permit, making them a favorite for those looking to refine their skills in technical trout waters.
Whether you’re looking to improve your casting, tie your first fly, or simply enjoy time on the water with fellow anglers, Lew Jewett Fly Fishers welcomes you to be part of our community. Grab your rod, join us at an event, and experience the joy of fly fishing with a club that values tradition, education, and the environment.
