Fly Fishing International and Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing – Looking for Volunteers

At the December Lew Jewett FFI meeting at Joseph’s Grill, there was interest from several members regarding Project Healing Waters FF and Rob Norijean of Project Healing Waters (PHWFF) promised to send information on the program. Attached is the current Project Healing Waters 2018 schedule and a flyer they use to promote sessions at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. Of the 3 locations that Project Healing Waters support, the sessions at the VA Medical Center are the only ones open to all disabled vets. These sessions are advertised publicly. The other two locations are restricted to current patients under treatment.

Rob Noirjean and Project Healing Waters are asking for our members help. Not for funding, but for your fly fishing education expertise and help communicating the PHWFF program to disabled vets. Below are two areas:

• For the “Rush River Rendezvous” on June 14th, they need volunteers who are good fly fishing teachers to take a vet fishing on the river. They pair one vet with one volunteer. Almost all participating vets can cast a fly rod, but they want to increase their chances of catching fish that day!

• Contained in the Fall/Winter FFI Fly Fisher magazine is FFI is planning to step up the support of PHWFF and they had a great article in there on PHWFF rod building. They have one group of vets that would be perfect to do rod building. Project Healing Waters can buy all the components needed, but our current volunteer base doesn’t have that expertise and they are looking for volunteers.

If anyone from FFI wants to join us at any other PHWFF event, please send Rob a note at so he can add you to their volunteer list.
