Chili Fest 2017
Saturday, October 28, 2017
Mississippi River Smallmouth Fishing at
Ellison Park in Monticello, MN
Street address: 811 W River Street, Monticello, MN 55362
Chili should be Available from about 11:45 to 1:00 p.m. (Give or Take)

What to bring: Bring enough chili for yourself (and maybe a bit more), we will put it into one pot and blend it with other chili’s that have been brought. If you bring a chili that is considered very spicy, please let us know so that we can put that into a separate pot.

What else to bring: Please bring your own bowl and utensils, beverages and drinking cup. If some are inclined to bring other treats, they will be happily accepted too. We will have hot water available.

Obviously bring your fishing gear for smallmouth. Fishing is available right at the park and the river should be low enough to be waded. This is a great opportunity to bring your two handed spey fishing outfits as it’s a big river there! While the chili eating is scheduled from 11:45 to 1:00 the fishing at this location could be good all day long, so make a day of it if you can.

Paul and Lyth plan to start the chili in pots about 11:00 a.m. It takes a bit of time to warm the chili, especially as we add the chili from others. Please bring chili that is not frozen as that cools off the pot considerably making the warming time longer. The chili should be ready to eat by about 11:45. We’ll try to keep the chili available until about 1:00 or so. However…once it’s gone it’s gone.

Paul and Lyth will have onions, cheese and crackers available. We will also have some instant coffee, cider & hot chocolate packets available too.

Featuring:

Robert Hawkins- Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop
Floatin’ the ‘Stone – Longest Undammed River in the Lower 48

Follow a 30-day drift boat and fly fishing journey down the longest “undammed” river in the lower 48, led by fly fishing guide, professional photographer, and 4th generation Montanan, Robert Hawkins.

Robert moved to Minnesota 5 years ago and bought Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop from Mike Alwin.

Intimate portraits of locals in both booming cities and dusty, dwindling towns along the Yellowstone River, illustrate the history and controversies surrounding this enigmatic watershed leading to questions about its future. Connect with colorful characters, get lost in the hypnotic cast of a fly rod, and experience silhouetted moments of fireside stories on this heartfelt river adventure.

From the Gateway to Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner, Montana to the confluence of the Missouri River at historic Fort Buford, North Dakota, two boats drifted north on the freestone waters of the Yellowstone River. Experiencing a soul searching and inspirational journey down the longest free flowing river in the contiguous United States. The crew eases into life and fishing amongst the peaceful sounds of a massive water flow, flanked on each side by rugged mountains, plains full of big game, and an unending sky showcasing bald eagles and osprey.

Robert will be showing his photos from this 30 day journey and talking about the fishing opportunities that the Yellowstone has to offer.
